Running a stale arrow
In the dark
And in the fog
When us trucks have a green light
In a dark car
In no particular hurry, shoulda FLOORED IT
Like most things on the road, I’m OK with speeding through a turn as long as you don’t get in the way or make yourself a hazard. In other words, pick a faster speed, wait until there’s an actual turn arrow or a gap in traffic and GUN IT.

The first one who ran it, I was like “dumbass!” Then I saw the second one.

But he needed to go!
Seriously though, my comute is flooded with the “imma just go” attitude.
Want to make a left? Just go.
Stuck in a turn only lane and want to go straight? Just go!
Need to turn but there is no room and you’re going to block traffic? Just go!!
Light turns green? Remain stationary while continuing to play on your phone.

I wish cops would enforce this instead of silly things like front license plates, loud exhaust, and driving while black. That said, I have DEFINITELY seen worse than this in both NJ and CA. But I ALWAYS play chicken with those assholes and gun it directly at them. Ive made some stop in the middle of the intersection and back the fuck up. I could care less if its a bit dangerous, I am not taking shit from the light running dicks. Sure, I will stop if need be and just blare the horn. But it was lovely the one time I totally scared one off while in my Miata. There was one light on my commute in NJ where people would be initiating their turn after my light had already turned green. I would get to the halfway point of the intersection and these dumb fucks are just barely starting to turn.
But that truck next to you was also smoking excessively. That seems like a problem lol.

At first I thought he was doing an open diff burnout and had some one wheel peel action going on. Then it looked more like he was having Focus RS problems and dumping coolant out of the exhaust. But yeah cold engine and wet out with generous throttle input could certainly just do that too.

It is done. It’s challenging to make people to do shit like that right in front of you though.
Loud exhaust and lack of a front plate are things you can get stopped by because they don’t go away till you fix them. I’m just gonna ignore that third one.

Oh this reminds me: who are worse drivers, NJ or Southern California? I’d wager it’s California. I mean, running a stop sign has been named “the California roll.*”
I do find the front license plate legitimate, but only when they get stopped for other things. I’m quite bitter I didn’t even have my car for a week before I had to put one on. And I’m more bitter about the tint since it wasn’t even dark at all.
*My criminal law professor is a judge and when he does traffic court he’ll inevitably get people cited for running a stop sign, or a right turn on red (aka stop sign) and people are positive they stopped. They didn’t. They don’t. They suck at driving. I’m actually surprised no one has rear ended me yet because I come to a FULL AND COMPLETE stop before going. I’ve also had my aunt make fun of my stops calling them “exaggerated” because I come to a full and complete stop.

Oh man, you dont know how paranoid I get about getting rear ended at red lights making a right. I always come to a complete stop but I rarely see others doing anything close to that. I have seen plenty of people, usually a taxi or an uber though, just go full speed through the red while making a right! I just feel like people assume others will california roll at this point so its dangerous to do the right thing. I will gladly continue following the law since I will gladly fake a neck injury for those idiots but it worries me.
100% agreed on the front plate thing being fine if stopped for other stuff. Its just being the primary reason to stop someone being stupid. Yeah if I am being an asshat, feel free to tack the plate fine on but I generally abide by all of the other rules. Never been pulled over for it, but I know plenty of people who have been.
As far as NJ vs CA, its hard to compare. I think California as a whole is better. But specifically Los Angeles is most certainly worse. And its beyond just the density thing and how bad traffic is. People here are either overly aggressive or plain stupid. It’s why the first thing I bought when I got here was a dash cam! I have found that there is the same percentage of stupid people in both places but far more psychopaths here who act with complete disregard to the law lol. Sure I will admit to speeding plenty and passing people when I shouldnt be, but its all within reason when the conditions warrant it.

I was about to say get a dash cam, because I did, and I see you did, so good job. I had an asshat BACK INTO ME and then the insurance denies it because “usually it’s the fault of the person in the back.” I was so fucking pissed. So never again.
People in LA are beyond fucking stupid. One morning on my way to USC for an appointment I was stuck in traffic, so, normal, and this chick was on looking at her phone for miles. Each time I saw it I was still stunned.
People in LA are also complete dicks and you basically can’t use your turn signal to get over to your exit; you’re forced to be a dick and cut someone off.
I’m emailing you now about the Oppo meet, and so you have my email.

Haha you describe driving around LA perfectly. I find the most absurd thing is the tailgating while going fast. This is probably not unique to LA as I have seen it elsewhere, but it seems especially pronounced here because it never rains or gets icy. I have seen plenty of cars locking up brakes when coming up to some traffic because they were just following too closely. Shit doesnt end well in the wet which is why there are so many accidents when it does actually rain. I couldnt even imagine what chaos a patch of black ice on the 405 would cause!
I really want to get a rear facing dash cam as well, that is the next thing I would like to do to truly cover myself.

Oh LA has also gotten way worse over the years. For some reason that I can’t fathom, people now ignore double (or however many lines there are) yellow and white carpool lines. I shit you not people constantly cross over both ways whenever they feel like it. It used to be where you didn’t have to worry about people cutting you off, so you could relax. Not anymore! I fucking hate driving through LA anymore.
It does always crack me up to see people just glued to someone else’s ass for no reason at all. My other favorite are the idiots who weave in and out of lanes but are stupid so they get nowhere. It’s so fun to sit back and watch, analyze, then see the opening and get way ahead of them.
I got a dash cam with a rear camera, and I have two (for both of my cars) new ones with an upgraded rear camera which is now HD. I would sell you my old ones but they’re already spoken for.

The problem with the cameras that come with a rear one is that the rear one usually sucks. I would rather just get a dedicated rear one that is of the same quality as the front. The only annoying part would be remembering to unplug two of them all of the time when getting to work. Having a camera recording on a military base is definitely a no no.
I dont usually go East of my apartment unless I have to. Going into actual LA is absolute hell, to be avoided at all costs. I would rather just take a bus at that point lol. The orange line is in walking distance of me at least so I can get to Union station in under an hour for $1.75. Or just uber down there, its worth it to avoid the stress and risk to my vehicles.

The one from Veckle I got on Amazon is either 720 or 1080 in the rear. Either way it’s very good. And it costs about the same as a good front facing camera, just without some of the bells and whistles like wifi tethering, or things like that.
I wish every time I went to my sister’s in San Diego I didn’t have to bring shit with me, or leave on a Sunday, because otherwise I’d pay the premium to take Amtrak. My mom does every time, but whenever I have to go we always have to drive. My sister knows how much I hate it but guilted me into Christmas since she knows I like her sons. Damn it!
Before I started law school (so much reading I want to cry) I was taking Metrolink from REDACTED to REDACTED. I think I already told you where I live and where I work, but it’s only 12 miles apart, so most people think I’m crazy, but it usually takes half an hour each way, and I’m sick of it. I don’t care if I get to work an hour early, or get home an hour later, it’s worth it. And it also costs the same taking Metrolink as it does to fill up my Mercedes, but that’s only because I get the disabled rate, and my Mercedes chugs gas.

Hmm interesting, taking metrolink to actually get places generally does label you as crazy around here lol. I have taken metrolink a couple of times and you are right, people question why you would do such a thing. I wish they would build a big old set of metrolink tracks right down the center of the 101 to give a solid alternative to that commute, my girlfriend surely would appreciate that. Or even better, a subway line instead of a stupid bus where the orange line is. But transit is the root of all evil apparently.

Yup, it’s quite sad. Out of the millions that live in Ventura County (okay maybe 800,000) only a handful actually use Metrolink to commute. But I don’t blame them because it’s shit if you don’t work anywhere near a station, or work somewhere close to the transit connections near LA Union. And the times also suck.
Even if we got usable public transport people will never let go of their stupid cars. I find that baffling since it takes an hour to get around the corner anywhere in LA county.

The only bad part is that it will continue to get worse. I’m more scared about what it will be like in 10-15 years from now really. It’s manageable as is, yeah traffic sucks but I don’t deal with it on my commute so its not a big deal. And people can get places eventually at least. There is no room to add more lanes, its too expensive to build a shit ton of subways, and no other huge plans seem to be in place to really solve the issues. So eventually it will become an even greater clusterfuck than it is now.
I would love to see a congestion charge/toll like London does. That would probably bring about riots in the street though:

Yeah... I’m afraid to think about what it will be like in 10-15 years. If it gets any worse I will need to work closer from home, because I can’t handle a longer commute when it’s only 12 miles right now.
The congestion charge would be fine, but only if we had viable alternatives to taking cars. Which, as you know, we don’t. But it will take employers pitching in too to work around current public transport schedules, incentivizing carpooling, or alternate means of transportation. Without that public transit will never work in LA or any other metro area on the west coast.
